Not the life you wished you had. Not the life you are still preparing for. But the magnificent moment right in front of your eyes. Your beautiful heart beating. Those you may share the room with. The sunlight and the moonlight. Can you feel it? The oatmeal on your toddlers hair, ketchup on your beige cushions and muddy paw prints all over the white tile. It’s all good. Necessary even. How else would you get your exercise? Resilience. Expansion. Life that happens for you, not to you. If you waste any of it worrying, you might just miss the whole point. The essence. The beauty of slow and decadent journey. The unfolding of each moment just as it should, in order to facilitate your growth.
Imagine sitting in a dark theater. It’s Showtime. On the screen is a perfect heroine. Pretty. Slim. Rich. No challenges. In perfect house. With perfect children and spouse. Starring at her perfect furniture. And starring some more. How long till you get bored watching? How long till you walk out of the theater? How long till you wish there was some sort of challenge to overcome? Madam director, at least throw in a Twinkies addiction or something. So we don’t start snoring in our seats. Yet it is all of us wish for. A life with no challenges. Have you ever met survivors of such predicament? (the-no-challenge-ever people) How did you like them? What kind of people were they? Challenges are that very thing that make us stronger and give us empathy. All that being-a-human stuff. On the flip side of the no-challenge equation there is J.K Rowling left alone with a small child in her hands, no money, and no place to live. And now we have Harry Potter. And Nelson Mandela stuck in prison for decades and the life-changing movement he brought us.
If you are having a hard time, ask those who have been there. They will tell you that you will figure it out. One little step at a time. Just take action. Any action. Get out of bad an hour earlier. Call a friend. Find someone else to help. Anything to get unstuck. Out of inertia and into the momentum of positive change. And if you are ready to roll up your sleeves and start living your life as you always intended, help is on the way.
